Very affordable family breakfast restaurant. The food is good but the portions at huge! Also they have gotten pretty busy, if you come after 8am expect a wait.

Found it by accident. Great food, excellent service and reasonable prices. Don't tell everyone, just a couple people. That way the secret doesn't get out. I thought it was that good!

Excellent homey restaurant. We went for breakfast around 9am on Thursday and were seated right away. The scrambled omelet was delicious. Be sure to stop by 😊!!

Friendly staff, cute decor, but longest wait ive ever had for breakfast. Don't come here if you're hungry. You'll be waiting over an hour just to sit, and another hour for your food. The food better be amazing!

My boyfriend and I are currently working in Truckee for the holidays and decided to try a local place for brunch today. Donner Lake Kitchen was a fantastic choice! It was a tad bit busier than the venue allowed for, meaning a wait time. When we walked in, there were four parties ahead of us, but we were seated within 10 minutes. The waitresses were prompt to our needs. We got our drinks right away and ordered without delay. One of the waitresses named Katie was super sweet and kind. She noticeably went out of her way to help in any way she could. The amount of food received for the price was impressive! The hot chocolate was the best I've ever had and our food was phenomenal! We will definitely be returning!

We met with friends at this spot for a meeting. we heard about this restaurant from quite a few people. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff members were very polite and we felt good. The meal was fresh and delicious. We loved this place very much and we will definitely return to this restaurant. we highly recommend this place.

The food is well priced, delicious and great serving sizes. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the view of the lake is beautiful! Definitely recommend.

While we waited for our seat, we had a chat with a local couple. They said, " Donner Lake Kitchen is the best place to eat in this area". After we heard their comment, we didn't mind to have a long wait due to a holiday. Once we got seated, I ordered Crab Benedict (1/2 Size). It was delicious. I also like that Donner Lake Kitchen offers 1/2 size of dish in the menu. It had nice pictures and cheerful decorations inside of the restaurant. Staff was friendly and energetic. Definitely, I would like to visit Donner Lake Kitchen again if I have a chance to visit Donner Lake.

I'm torn on this review. Food was excellent. Staff was excellent. Wait time for a table was reasonable given the people ahead of us. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is due to the fact we waited just under an hour for our food to arrive after ordering. I'm guessing it had to do with only one person seen in the kitchen for the longest time but who knows.

Such a quaint breakfast spot! The staff is very friendly and the food is amazing and reasonably priced and portioned. The location is perfect- so close to the lake, and you can either park in the parking lot or across the street along the road!

Breakfast was the best we've eaten in a very long while! Our wait person was outstanding.

This is a great diner. It'll cure about anything, you're just going to have to wait for it. They base seating on an honor system that involves a dry erase board. You might be tempted to cheat, but you will be found out and retribution is certain from the staff if a fight doesn't break out with the guests you slight. If the line seems long, put down your name and seat count, then have a stroll along the lake, or enjoy a Bloody Mary in the shade of an old pine. Remember, you're in paradise.

The most delicious breakfast I have had. Worth the long wait! Luckily we weren't in any hurry on vacation. Glad we ordered the amazingly fresh and warm cinnamon roll while we waited. The food is made from scratch and the flavors are amazing. Will definitely go back when we are in the area again.

Delicious and worth the wait! We came on a Sunday mid-morning which is a fairly popular time. The wait was about 30 min, and after eating we all decided it was worth it. Outstanding food, superb service, and reasonable prices. Our whole group joked that we won't need to eat for at least a couple of days (all of our items were so good, we all cleaned our plates!)

The Donner Lake kitchen is a little off the beaten path. It is right by Donner Lake. It is a delightful find. I went there for breakfast and had a wonderful meat-lovers omelette and potatoes Plus, which puts cheese and onions on top of the home fries. It was wonderfully satisfying

Love eating breakfast here! Fresh cooked food the staff is awesome the owner is also busy on the floor with all her customers. She is one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. I’ll drive up from Roseville just to have breakfast 🍳 🥞 and take in some Tahoe view.

Awesome breakfast place across from Donner Lake. The Cowboy Breakfast is by go to but I hope they put the Colorado Benedict on the menu full time!

Thank goodness I got the chance to stop by here. My family & I were on our way to Sacramento when I found this place looking for the nearest place to get breakfast and we couldn't have picked a better place. From the scenery of Donner Lake, till we walked inside we all knew it was something special.The restaurant had a rustic charm and resembled an old ski cabin. The waitress serving us was very polite, social, and made us feel right at home. All the cutlery, cups & dishes felt like a mix of what I'd see at fancy restaurants and what I'd find in my own kitchen. I had a burger with hash browns and even though the burger was on sandwich bread, It was amazing. I think it had 1000 islands dressing or something but it went really well. The hash brown were also good. When my family and I reminisce on our vacation, this is one of the spots we can't seem to forget. I highly recommend for any locals in the area and anyone lucky enough to pass by Donner Lake.
